Turmeric Powder, also known as Haldi, is famous for its fantastic yellow colour, strong flavour and highly distinctive aroma. It has also been termed the Indian Saffron due to its extensive use as an alternative to the far more expensive Saffron spice. Turmeric is a significant ingredient in most commercial curry powder. It is used extensively in many Indian dishes including lentils, vegetable and meat based recipes. In European cuisine turmeric is sometimes used as a colouring agent. It's even used in some mustards, margarines, liqueurs and good colour itself to enhance the yellow appearance. Turmeric has in the past also been prised as a herbal remedy for a number of ailments.
